What is a Tourist?
The simple definition of a tourist is someone who travels, usually for pleasure or to learn about new things.
Tourists are the majority of travelers, when not vacationing, because a tourist usually implies tourism and actual touring around, though most travel is considered to be under the tourism industry umbrella. Tourists may be couples, families, or just a person or two who visit locations and like to take in history, culture, local food, etc.
More on Tourists
Tourists are sometimes negatively stereotyped to be more naive than “real travelers,” purchasing expensive guidebooks, visiting the most famous of attractions, and perhaps suckered into purchasing souvenirs at a high price and with no relevance to the place (t-shirts, key chains, etc.).
This has been particularly true among travel bloggers, many of whom view “tourists” as beneath them, unfortunately, which is also antithetical to the themes of broadening minds, erasing borders, and making the world a better place that many travel bloggers profess to promote.
