What is the Shoulder Season?

A shoulder season, in travel terminology, is the time between high and low seasons, known as peak and off-peak seasons.

Usually rates are slightly lower than during the high season, along with slightly lower temperature and crowds; shoulder seasons, however, will have higher rates, temperatures, and crowds than the actual off-peak season.

More on the Shoulder Season

Cynics might say that the shoulder season is a term that hotels and airlines use to charge the high rates of peak season, while being able to offer attractions, staff, and resources typical of the off-peak season.
