What is Crashing and Dashing?

Crash and Dash is lingo referring to a hotel guest who sleeps over and then leaves without paying.

A crash and dash is also known as a recline and dash, which rhymes with the origin idiom of dine and dash.

To mitigate some risks of crashing and dashing, a hotel might take note of any scanty baggage guests (those with little or no baggage). Hotel managers may choose to limit the credit these guests have or ask for full payment at check-in.

More on Crash and Dash

Crashing and dashing may happen more with younger hotel and hostel guests, which is why hotel receptionists might require payment in advance. At hotels, the staff might look out for guests checking in with scanty baggage, as these guests at least have the ability to make a crash and dash easier.
