The town of Banff is bewitching all year long, but during the winter, there’s something so mesmerizing about the national park in which it’s located. It’s truly a magical winter wonderland full of exciting activities to fill up your itinerary, from dogsledding to helicopter tours. You’re sure to set your sights on something remarkable if you stop by this Alberta town when traveling to Canada.

2. New York City, New York

Of course, if we’re going to make a list of stunning winter getaways, then New York City has to be on it. Few things come close to a NYC holiday, so if you and your significant other are looking for someplace romantic, then this city is a great option. Walk hand-in-hand down the streets mid-snowfall—it’s truly dazzling.

3. St. Moritz, Switzerland

One of the most glamorous ski getaways to hit when visiting Europe, St. Moritz, Switzerland is a fantastic place for a winter trip. If you’re missing the sun, it’s known to shine here an average of 322 days a year. The town has everything from world-class skiing to a chic downtown area—you’ll never want to leave!

4. Woodstock, Vermont

One of our favorite small towns in the U.S., Woodstock is a magical entity in the winter. The town is simply angelic with a fresh blanket of snow on the ground, and it makes for a magnificent relaxing trip. Wander the town, or take a trip to the nearby slopes for some skiing.

If you’ve been dying to take a Nordic trip, then Abisko is what you’ve been looking for. There are lots of reindeer, a vibrant national park, and frequent appearances of the aurora borealis. Plan a relaxing trip with ice fishing and firepits or an adventure-filled getaway with cross-country skiing and star-gazing. And, Sweden makes it easy to do this with their concept of Allemansrätten, or “everyone’s right.”

Another spot that’s gorgeous all year round, Lake Tahoe, which straddles the border of California and Nevada, seems to truly peak in the winter. There are tons of ski resorts, hot springs, and more. After you’ve spent a day in the snow, wind down at one of the numerous resorts or head out for a drink.

Prague in December—and honestly through the entire winter—is like something out of a fairytale. In the capital of Czechia (formerly known as the Czech Republic), you can fall in love with Christmas markets, holiday caroling and lights, and so much more.

There’s so much to love about Colorado in the winter, and Telluride is one of those mountain towns that are as mesmerizing as they are quaint. Stay in one of the area’s many gorgeous vacation rentals, which are just as stunning as their backdrops. Go skiing down the mountains, or enjoy a quiet evening by the fireplace—both are equally lovely options.

9. Lake Bled, Slovenia

If you’ve never heard of this place, get ready for something divine. The picturesque body of water is located in the Julian Alps of northwestern Slovenia, and it has the most charming little island in the center. Take a snowy hike to get some gorgeous shots, and then head to the Vintgar Gorge to see beautiful waterfalls, pools, and caves!
