Updated: 2018-11-21.
Coordinated Universal Time is the primary standard for keeping track of time throughout the world. It is centered on the United Kingdom, and time zones to its east and west are offset in hours up or down.

Coordinated Universal Time is abbreviated as UTC due to the French term for it, temps universel coordonné.

See also: Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), which is used as a synonym for UTC by many. However, Coordinated Universal Time is a time standard, while GMT is a time zone.
