Ticket [TIX]

Updated: 2017-11-28.

In travel transportation, a ticket is the record of a passenger’s information and schedule purchased in the computer system. Tickets must not be confused with boarding passes, as a ticket will not allow a passenger onto a plane without the boarding pass. A ticket confirms purchase and can be used to obtain a boarding pass. A ticket may be issued as a paper ticket or as an E-ticket, which is growing in popularity.

In other areas of tourism, a ticket serves as a pass that grants entry, such as to a museum, gallery, or other destination. A ticket is usually given after payment is received, if payment is required.

Tickets are sometimes abbreviated as TIX.
