One Left [1L]

Updated: 2017-12-13.

One Left, or 1L, is the forward-most door on the port side of an aircraft.

On an aircraft with multiple cabin doors and emergency exits, the cabin crew typically refers to each door in this fashion, in descending order; the next door on this side would be “two left” (“2L”). This is usually the boarding door on most aircraft.

If the plane boards from the starboard front cabin door, that door would be “1R,” for “One Right.”
