Ground Stop

Updated: 2017-03-27.

A ground stop, in airline parlance, is the stoppage of flights at an airport, possibly because of air traffic congestion that needs to be cleared out before aircraft can land. Usually invoked by air traffic control or the folks in the control tower, a ground stop can limit or restrict inbound and outbound flights.
