Global Distribution System [GDS]

Updated: 2017-12-07.
A Global Distribution System, or GDS, is a computer reservation system (CRS) that accesses and interacts with reservation systems and databases around the world across different travel industry branches and of different companies to facilitate the ease of booking by travelers, travel agents, and travel websites.

A global distribution system connects the databases and reservation systems of many companies, allowing one company to use one system to offer their customers many different options. Otherwise, they’d have to integrate with many different systems, often proprietary, to perform the same tasks.

Examples of GDS include: Sabre, Amadeus, and Galileo.
