Updated: 2017-12-07.

Excess baggage is any baggage that exceeds the allowed dimensions for a particular belonging according to the rules of an airline or other transportation provider.

Excess baggage may include overweight items, oversize items, or too many pieces of luggage. It may also be determined for both checked baggage and carry-on items.

To determine the quantity and weight allowed per passenger, the traveler must contact the company or check the fine print of their travel reservation and identify the baggage allowance.
