Decompression

Updated: 2017-12-07.

Decompression, in flight, is the loss of air pressure (depressurization) in the aircraft cabin, known as the cabin pressure.

Aircraft cabin decompression when the altitude is too great can affect human and animal passengers with any of several physiological problems.

The opposite of decompression is known as cabin pressurization.
