Bridge

Updated: 2017-12-14.

Usually related to water vessels, the bridge is the command and navigation center of a ship. On larger ships, the bridge is usually always manned by someone acting as a lookout.

Two common names for the bridge are the wheelhouse and pilothouse, though these are more often used to refer to the bridge on medium-sized and smaller ships. The wheelhouse used to be a compartment within the bridge that housed the ship’s wheel.
