In hotel parlance, a bed tax, also known as a Transient Occupancy Tax, is a city or county tax added to the price of a hotel room.
Bed taxes can be quite popular revenue producers for many voting constituencies, as the particular locality finds a way to increase income without placing any extra burden on the local residents.
