Allophilia

Updated: 2017-11-28.

Allophilia means to have a positive attitude, affinity for, or love for a group or people that is not one’s own. Similar to another great instance of traveler’s vocabulary, xenophilia.

Allo-” stems from Greek állos and Latin alius, meaning other, a difference, a variation.

-philia” and “-phile” come from Greek philos, which means loving; “-philia” denotes a love or affection for the thing that precedes it (as in xenophilia), and “-phile” indicates a person with a love or affinity towards the thing which precedes it (as in audiophile, an enthusiast of high-quality sound).
