A Beginner’s Guide to Snorkeling: 3 Tips for Newbie Snorkelers

Snorkeling is fun, but it can be daunting for newbies. Follow this beginner’s guide to snorkeling with 3 tips for newbie snorkelers to dip your toe in.

Unfortunately, we’re all stuck inside for the moment.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has brought almost all travel to a standstill. Yet, quarantine is the perfect opportunity to plan your next trip for when all of this is over.

This is also a great time to think about how to make your next vacation stand apart from others you’ve taken in the past. For example, you can learn about a new hobby that you can do on your next getaway, such as snorkeling.

This beginner’s guide to snorkeling will tell you everything you need to know, so you’re ready to start when this crisis is over.

Choose the Perfect Location

You must choose the perfect location for your first snorkeling adventure. Don’t just visit a country off the oceanside and hope for the best. Instead, research different countries that are known to have spectacular underwater wildlife.

One of the reasons to visit The Galapagos Islands, for example, is because they have some of the most beautiful marine creatures in the world. If you book a snorkel and dive cruise to this destination, there’s no way you’ll be disappointed. Wherever you decide to book your trip, make sure the place is known for its crystal-clear waters. You need to snorkel in clean and clears seas so you can see all the animals swimming around you.

Practice Your Swimming

Snorkeling is a strenuous task. You must be a strong swimmer to partake in the activity. So follow the old saying, practice makes perfect. If you have a pool in your backyard, do a couple of laps every day before your trip.

You should also try swimming with the appropriate snorkeling gear on. Snorkeling equipment is heavy! Make sure you can handle the weight underwater before you dive right in. People who want to go snorkeling should also practice certain breathing techniques. Yes, snorkelers have tools to assist with breathing while they’re underwater, but it’s still important to know how to remain calm and not use up more oxygen than is available to you.

Don’t Stress Yourself Out

Remember, snorkeling is supposed to be a fun activity. Snorkeling is an unforgettable experience that will make your next vacation the most special one to date. However, don’t bite off more than you can chew when you go snorkeling for the first time. If you feel uncomfortable or unsafe at any time, swim above water and get back on the ship. There’s no need to stress yourself out when you’re supposed to be doing something enjoyable.

Remember to take things one step at a time. If your first time snorkeling isn’t the most awesome experience ever, keep trying. Go on more and more diving excursions until you have the time of your life.

The world isn’t the same place it was a few short weeks ago.

We must band together now more than ever to stop the spread of the coronavirus. Sadly, that means practicing social distancing and staying indoors. Yet, one way you can keep yourself busy while in quarantine is to plan a snorkeling trip to an exotic location when this crisis is over.

This beginner’s guide to snorkeling will hopefully help those who are inexperienced with the activity, and, if you follow this advice and those from your instructor, you’ll have an amazing time on your next well-deserved trip.
